OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The objectives of the immunization and vaccine development programme in the SEAR are to strengthen immunization delivery systems to achieve and sustain high routine immunization coverage; to eradicate polio and to eliminate measles and control rubella by 2020; to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus; to build capacity by 2018 of the national regulatory authority in all Member States; to ensure vaccine supply of assured quality; to monitor adverse events following immunization and to facilitate introduction of available new and underutilized vaccines for the benefit of all people.

Also, among the programme objectives facilitate having a well-functioning and quality laboratory service is essential to the process of certifying eradication of polio from the world and to the prevention and control of all vaccine preventable diseases. Control of vaccine preventable diseases would thus contribute to the reduction of under-five mortality and to the health and well-being of all people.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of Director, Family Health, Gender and Life Course (FGL), with specific guidance and priorities and day to day supervision of the Regional Advisor, Accelerated Disease Control (RA-ADC) and in collaboration with technical staff, the incumbent will carry out the following duties

Provide technical support to the IVD unit on initiating VPD surveillance information systems in terms of database management including content, structure, relational integrity, file location, backup system, and documentation.

Supervise the process of data cleaning and verifying data for accuracy.

Oversee the development of computer applications that facilitate the smooth functioning, user-friendliness of the polio and measles surveillance information systems (e.g., data entry interfaces, automated outputs).

Ensure incoming data are properly managed by the data management/information system group in terms of proper logging and data entry and data processing.

Monitor programmatic progress and surveillance systems performance at the global, regional and national level.

Support the information needs of the IVD unit.

Prepare and maintain annual EPI fact sheets and standard regional presentations on Polio, measles, immunization and other VPD related technical areas.

Provide technical support to Country Offices to strengthen the VPD data management and improve data quality.

Perform other tasks as assigned by Team Leader

Submit assignment report upon completion of assignment (mandatory)

Education

Essential: University degree in Information Technology or related area.

Desirable: Training in Geographical information system

Work Experiance

Essential: At least five (5) years' experience in data collection, management and analysis of immunization and VPD surveillance data.

Desirable: Experience in managing large data sets and multiple indicators for immunization preventable disease surveillance in WHO or public health system of INGOs or NGOs or bilateral or multilateral international agencies in the South-East Asian countries.

Functional Skills and Knowledge

Demonstrated ability in creating and running programme databases for immunization and VPD surveillance.

Excellent and meticulous data management skills, including analysis and synthesis of data.
